Hastings 1066: Ein Ritter Spiel
Description
Hastings 1066: Ein Ritter Spiel.
Duke William of Normandy has crossed the channel to win the English throne. Harold Godwinson has rushed south to meet him. What follows is a classic battle that will change world history. .
In Hasting, two players take on the roles of William and Harold. They command their armies and try to herd their enemy into a killing ground. It is the ultimate game of skill. .
Ein Ritter Spiel is a dice-less battle game in which each player commands an army. They may move two groups of units a turn and make two or three attacks. As long as all the units of the army are next to one another, pointed in the same direction, it only takes one of the moves to move them. As armies get broken up, movement breaks down. When units are next to one another they may attack. Players look down a Combat Matrix to find out what happens. The first description that fits is the outcome. Since players can memorize the matrix they will only attack where they will win. When they win the enemy unit runs away. If they can’t run then they are destroyed. So the players have to herd their opponents rather than just beat them. .
When armies have taken 20% casualties they are broken and start to run, unlike in other games though the game is not over. The second part of the game is about pursuit. True victory comes from annihilating your enemy as they flee. If Harold had been able to retreat in good order William would not have won England. .
Ein Ritter Spiel battle can be fought out in as little as 15 minutes which means players can get a game in over their lunch hour (That’s when I usually play!) .
Ein Ritter Spiel games come in a box with a 20x15 inch hard board map, an order of battle, a rules booklet, and wooden counters. .
